Sedlena Greda (2,227 m) is a prominent peak in the Durmitor range of Montenegro. The ascent is fairly short, enjoyable, and slightly exposed in places—ideal for mountain hikers looking for a quick outing with postcard-worthy views at the top.
The hike to Sedlena Greda starts at Sedlo pass (1,907 m), on the road connecting Žabljak and Plužine. After paying the entrance fee to Durmitor National Park, you’ll begin a rewarding climb up grassy slopes with increasingly impressive views.
As you gain elevation, the trail gradually bends left and climbs gently across the slope below Zupci (2,148 m).
It then turns right and opens up views of the dramatic north face of Sedlena Greda. With this scenery in front of you, you continue to a broad grassy saddle, where the final steep climb begins—around 100 vertical meters up to the summit ridge.
The narrow ridge offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. The path continues left and gradually climbs toward the summit.
The ridge is narrow and slightly exposed in places, but it is not technically difficult. Most rocky steps can be comfortably bypassed on the grassy slope on either side of the ridge.
That said, caution is needed—some sections are steep and require sure footing.
From the top of Sedlena Greda, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding peaks—from majestic Bobotov Kuk and Prutaš to other rocky and grassy summits and the deep valleys of Durmitor. The panorama easily rivals that of much more demanding climbs.
From the summit of Sedlena Greda, return the same way back to Sedlo pass.
By car
Drive along a narrow paved road to the parking area at the pass. There is usually a parking fee as well as an entrance fee for Durmitor National Park.
By bus
Take a bus from Podgorica to Žabljak, the main tourist center of Durmitor. There is no bus connection to the pass, so your only option is to find an affordable taxi in Žabljak.
