Grúň Mountain Hut

Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Malá Fatra mountains, and with relatively easy access, it is an ideal destination for a short hike from Vrátna Valley. The hut also serves as a useful base for more demanding and longer ascents to well-known nearby peaks such as Veľký Kriváň, Chleb, and Stoh.

Hike to Grúň Mountain Hut

An easy yellow-marked trail leads to Grúň Mountain Hut from the lower cable car station in Vrátna Valley. Along the way, you will gain just over 200 metres of elevation, and the climb should take no more than an hour. Your reward will be views of the beautiful Malá Fatra ridge panorama and a pleasant stop at the hut.

Where to go next

• To Poludňový grúň – follow the yellow trail (1:30)
• To Stoh and Veľký Rozsutec – follow the yellow trail to Poludňový grúň (1:30), then the red trail via Stoh (3:00) and Medziholie Saddle (3:50) to Veľký Rozsutec (5:20)
• To Veľký Kriváň – follow the yellow trail to Poludňový grúň (1:30), then turn right onto the red trail to Chleb (2:45) and continue via Snilovské Saddle (3:05) to Veľký Kriváň (3:45)

From Žilina, take a direct bus via Terchová to Vrátna Valley, to the lower cable car station.

Search connections

By car from Žilina on road no. 583 to Terchová, then through Tiesňavy to Vrátna Valley, to the car park by the lower cable car station.
