Predná Magura is an unassuming grassy summit on the edge of the Low Tatras with surprisingly good views. The whole hike takes just a few hours, making it perfect for days when you want to see somewhere beautiful but don’t have much time.
The hike to the top of Predná Magura starts beyond the village of Partizánska Lupča at the Biela Ľupča junction (596 m), where a road branches left off the main road. Shortly after this junction, you leave the smaller asphalt road as well and turn right onto a farm track, which leads between pastures to the edge of the forest. Even from the pastures, you can admire the ridge of the Western Tatras behind you.
After a short climb through the forest, you reach the Rumanec junction (881 m) at the edge of a meadow. Continue following the yellow trail along a wide track used by off-road vehicles and enjoy the increasingly impressive views.
Just below the summit of Predná Magura (1171 m), the track bends left and a narrow footpath branches off to the right. This is the one that brings you to the top of Predná Magura within a few minutes, where you’ll find a large cross, a shelter, and a table with benches.
From Predná Magura, you can see the Malá Fatra mountains with the peaks of Veľký Kriváň and Veľký Rozsutec, farther right the solitary Veľký Choč, and farther right still the Western Tatras and, just beyond them, part of the High Tatras with the unmistakable summit of Kriváň. On the other side, the view opens over deep valleys above which rises the main ridge of the Low Tatras.
The descent follows the same route back.
