Hike up to Chata pod Rysmi

The shortest route to Chata pod Rysmi starts at Štrbské Pleso and follows the red-marked Tatra Highway. After about an hour and a half of relatively easy walking, the trail brings you to the scenic Popradské Pleso, a good place to take a break before continuing.

Continue on the blue trail to the Nad Žabím potokom junction, where you turn right onto the red-marked path. Before long, the trail begins climbing steeply in switchbacks toward Veľké Žabie pleso, where it briefly levels out, giving you a chance to enjoy views of the surrounding peaks and catch your breath before the next steep section.

Chains on the route to Chata pod Rysmi

Above Žabie pleso, you will reach the most demanding part of the entire route: a chain-protected traverse across a rocky ledge fitted with metal rungs and steps. The secured section is not especially difficult in itself, so the chains are most useful in poor weather. Even so, extra caution is needed, and on busy days you should expect possible delays here. After that, several steep switchbacks follow, and soon you will see Chata pod Rysmi above you.
