Chata pri Zelenom plese, also known as Brnčalka, is one of the most scenic and most visited mountain huts in the High Tatras. It stands on the shore of Green Lake at 1,551 m above sea level and is surrounded by dramatic peaks, making it a popular destination for hikers and mountain lovers.
The shortest and easiest route to Chata pri Zelenom plese follows the yellow trail from the Kežmarská Biela voda junction, where you’ll find both a bus stop and a car park.
From the car park, follow the wide yellow-marked gravel path, which climbs gently through an area of recovering forest. From time to time, Lomnický štít appears on the left. As you approach the Nad Matliarmi (1,020 m) junction, the trees become denser until you leave the windthrow area completely behind.
Continue on the same path, cross the Kežmarská Biela voda stream on a wooden bridge, and keep going until you reach a small hut on the right and a spring on the left. A few dozen metres farther on is the Šalviový prameň (1,200 m) junction, where the trail turns left and crosses the stream again.
Soon after, you’ll pass the Kovalčíkova poľana (1,226 m) junction, where there is a larger shelter — the last place to take cover in bad weather before reaching Chata pri Zelenom plese.
Still following the yellow trail, continue with a gentle climb through the forest, with occasional views of the Belianske Tatras on the right. As you gain height, the trees thin out and the views open up until the unforgettable panorama of Zelené pleso appears ahead. Above the lake stands Chata pri Zelenom plese, with Kežmarský štít, Lomnický štít, Pyšný štít, Čierny štít, the majestic Jastrabia veža, and Kozí štít towering above. All that remains is to cross the footbridge over the stream flowing out of the lake, climb a few more metres, and you’re at the hut.
A visit to Brnčalka lets you experience the magic of the High Tatras at its best. Whether you come here to relax by the lake or as part of a bigger mountain adventure, the hut and its surroundings offer unforgettable experiences. Because the hike is relatively undemanding, the route to Chata pri Zelenom plese is suitable for a wide range of hikers and offers a perfect blend of physical activity and relaxation in one of the most beautiful corners of Slovakia.
