Hike description

The hike to Skok Waterfall from Štrbské Pleso is a popular, easy route leading through the scenic Mlynická Valley. The trail takes you to an impressive waterfall surrounded by the beauty of the Tatras.

Through Mlynická Valley to Skok Waterfall

The hike to Skok Waterfall starts in the well-known mountain resort of Štrbské Pleso at the trail junction in front of Helios (1,350 m), where you follow the yellow-marked hiking trail. At first, you walk along an asphalt road that comfortably leads you out of the busy center before turning into a gravel path through dense vegetation. Soon after, the route becomes a classic forest trail.

Gentle ascent through Mlynická Valley

The trail through Mlynická Valley climbs gradually and is not demanding, making it suitable for families with children and less experienced hikers. As you gradually leave the forest behind, beautiful views of the mountain landscape begin to open up, with the characteristic dwarf pine of the Tatras all around you.

Views of the Tatra ridges

Even before you reach your destination, Skok Waterfall, magnificent views of the surrounding High Tatras ridges start to unfold. High mountain peaks rise on both your left and right, giving this route its unique atmosphere. If the weather is clear and visibility is good, you may also spot the ridge of the Low Tatras behind you, including the distinctive summit of Kráľova hoľa with its transmitter on top.

Skok Waterfall: the landmark of Mlynická Valley

After about an hour of walking, you reach a point where the dwarf pine gives way and the majestic Skok Waterfall comes into view. This impressive natural feature, around 30 meters high, cascades down a smooth rock step and creates a striking scene. The waterfall lies at an elevation of 1,800 meters and is one of the main attractions in this part of the Tatras. Its roar and refreshing cool air make for a rewarding finish to the climb.

Skok Waterfall in winter

The hike to Skok Waterfall is not subject to any seasonal Tatra trail closures, which means it is accessible year-round. Whether you choose a summer walk through green mountain scenery or a winter hike when the waterfall is partly frozen, this route always offers a special experience. Skok Waterfall is therefore a perfect destination for anyone looking for an easily accessible yet visually stunning natural gem of the High Tatras.
