Hike description

Predné Solisko is an easily accessible peak that rewards hikers with beautiful views of the Low Tatras and the surrounding valleys. The trail is steep but easy to follow and suitable even for less experienced hikers.

From Štrbské Pleso to Predné Solisko

From the pred Heliosom junction (1350 m), follow the red trail, which leads you along the scenic shores of Štrbské Pleso. Even from here, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Tatra peaks, including the impressive ridge of Predné Solisko. Continue past the Liečebný dom Solisko junction (1347 m) and follow the gently ascending path along the Tatranská Magistrála until you reach the junction below Furkotská dolina (1460 m).

Furkotská dolina

Here, turn right onto the yellow-marked trail, which takes you into the peaceful Furkotská Valley. At first, the route goes through forest, later through dwarf pine.

At the Škutnastá poľana junction (1710 m), switch to the blue trail and cross several rocky sections. After about fifteen minutes, you will arrive at Chata pod Soliskom (1840 m), where the upper station of the chairlift from Štrbské Pleso is also located.

You can shorten the ascent/descent considerably by using the chairlift.

Ascent to Predné Solisko

The red-marked trail to Predné Solisko (2117 m) starts to the right of the mountain hut and is steep right from the beginning, with plenty of stone steps and loose scree sections. At times, you may need to use your hands while climbing, but the terrain is not particularly difficult or dangerous. The ascent from the hut to Predné Solisko should take no more than an hour.

From the summit of Predné Solisko, you get a bird’s-eye view of the Štrbské Pleso resort, and in the distance behind it the entire ridge of the Low Tatras. Far below lies Mlynická dolina, where you can spot Pleso nad Skokom and, just below it, the Skok Waterfall. On the opposite side is Furkotská Valley, with Kriváň rising in the background.

Descent

Once you have fully enjoyed the views, return the same way to Chata pod Soliskom and continue on the blue trail leading directly down to the shore of Štrbské Pleso.

Chata pod Soliskom

  • You can take the chairlift from Štrbské Pleso to Chata pod Soliskom and save a lot of time on the ascent/descent. Before heading to the lift, check the opening hours and the current operating status.
  • The fastest route up to Chata pod Soliskom is the blue-marked trail from Štrbské Pleso. However, it is not particularly scenic and stays exposed to the sun the whole way, so the route described above makes for a more pleasant ascent.
